The Office Season 4 Predictions

Tag: tvKyle Wegner @ 12:38 pm

Season 4 of The Office is inching towards another season finale. So far the season has been an interesting one, starting the year with hour-long episodes (well, really 2 episodes back-to-back, but don’t tell anyone that) and a writer’s strike in the middle. Because of the loss of a few episodes during the writer’s strike I feel like portions of the storyline have been moved forward too quickly, as they lack the subtlety of other seasons. These not-so-sublte plotlines have brought me to the following conclusions:

  • Ryan will be fired from corporate. His drug addiction (be it cocaine, speed, meth…who knows?) is an obvious sign of a downward spiral. His removal from corporate will be due justice for his pompous and superficial attitude towards the people gave him the opportunity to move up the ranks so quickly. Hopefully this will land him back in Scranton as a temp. I would love for Michael to be able to lay into him for being such a jerk.
  • Jim and Pam will not get engaged. The season finale would have been an amazing time for Jim & Pam to get engaged if it had not been for Jim showing us the ring already. Something will happen to postpone the engagement. I do not believe J&P will break up, as they are the only real romance in the entire show. This isn’t a real prediction, but I’m thinking someone close to Jim or Pam will die and they will be too distracted to focus on romance. What show is complete without a good emotional death close to one of the main characters?
  • Michael will get back together with Jan. She disappeared way too quickly without much explanation, and Michael has been failing miserably as a bachelor. Scott (the Wegner, not Michael) brought up a good point, too. Michael’s single life storyline is already getting played out a bit. They can’t keep relying on his social awkwardness with single women to keep the show interesting.
  • The love triangle: Dwight, Andy, and Angela. Dwight just got his mack on with an amazon woman, so we know he has game. But we also know that the only person in the world that is right for Dwight is Angela. Andy has been a non-character for a long time, so it isn’t going to take much to convince the audience that it is time for those two awkward lovebirds to get back together. Andy has too much fun as a single guy anyway.
  • Going back to the whole Jim and Pam thing, Roy has been gone for way too long. Maybe he will be the cause of putting off the engagement. I don’t think Pam will have second thoughts about Jim and go for Roy again, but there might be other elements of Roy’s story that will distract Pam long enough to keep an engagement out of season 4.
  • This last point isn’t as much of a prediction as it is a wish. I want to see more of the secondary characters more! I feel characters like Creed, Kelly, Oscar, and Kevin have been left out for a long time. I know these are not plot-enhancing characters, but they added so much to the humor. Maybe they have been what has been missing since we came back from the writer’s strike.

Ok this is getting rather long. Agree, disagree, or just add your own opinions in the comments. You know you love The Office as much as I do!

Oh, and I realize that we are too close to the finale for ALL of this to come true, but I think a good portion of it will apply to the end of season 4.

*I’m upset after reading your post Kyle…I missed the whole drug addiction thing. When did it come up and how was it presented? I’ve always thought that Ryan being in upper management was an awkward scenerio and I wouldn’t be surprised if it changed.
*Maybe Jan will be back with Dunder Mifflin…I mean, unless she’s getting written out of the show there is no place for her anymore. She doesn’t work or live with Michael, so how will she fit in? Btw….did anyone else notice that the “chair model” in the catalog was actually Jan with a brunette wig?
*I agree that the engagement between Jim and Pam (Jam?) won’t happen this season. Something will put it off…maybe Jim will get transferred. Also, I thought I detected some hesitation in Pam when Jim mentioned engagement…maybe she’ll get cold feet.
    *Angela back with Dwight…definitely.
*Lastly, I’d like to nominate Stanley for the best secondary character award! Really, think of his cynical remarks and the way his lower lip juts out when he questions Michael’s jackass ideas.

Ryan’s drug addiction came up in last week’s episode. At the club him and his hobbit friend were tripping out like crazy. I think the consensus is cocaine, but I’m not sure they ever really mentioned what exactly they were on. Anyone see any clues towards Ryan’s drug of choice?

I think my nomination for best secondary character is Creed. I think he is hilarious and wish they would go more into his back story. Right now he is just playing the crazy old guy role, but back in seasons 2 & 3 they actually integrated a bit of his past into the story line. I liked that.

Apparently we have a Tivo conflict here with The Office and Gray’s Anatomy, and that’s how I missed last week’s episode. Oy.

  4. Kyle Wegner says:

Well you are in luck! If you go to NBC.com you can watch the show. I believe The Office is also on hulu.com if you prefer to stay away from the network websites.

  5. Scott Wegner says:

Was the chair model in the catalog Jan? Man, I missed that– I need to go back and see, that’s hilarious!

I think that Ryan’s drug of choice is probably cocaine. It was kind of inferred that he was going to the bathroom at the bar frequently to get his fix. There was no mention of pot smell, and cocaine seems like an appropriate upper-management drug.

I agree that Creed is pretty awesome, but I think my favorite secondary character is Kevin. He just cracks me up every time. However, I think we’ve already learned a lot about Kevin and his background, we really don’t know too much about Creed.

Oh good lord…I’m watching the episode right now. Hilarious!

  7. Cheryl says:

Oh….and what’s with the looks between Toby and Pam?

  8. Kyle Wegner says:

Toby has been trying to get in Pam’s pants forever! Where the heck have you been? Maybe if you put down the laptop during The Office you would catch more of the subtleties :)

  9. Cheryl says:

Yeah…I knew that, but is Toby going to distract Pam from Jim?

  10. Kyle Wegner says:

Oh just finish the episode before you ask any more questions!

  11. Cheryl says:

I heard that Angela is pregnant in real life…did you notice how they’re only doing head shots of her now?

  12. Kyle Wegner says:

Yeah. They are going to work that into the storyline, too. My guess is it’s going to be a “Who’s the father?” type thing between Dwight and Andy.

    DUN DUN DUN!!!

Here is my analysis, after careful thought and deep soul-searching.

    Ryan: Getting fired? Agreed.

PB&J: Definitely not getting engaged, and my heart wants to say they won’t break up (but who knows, they could just to drive the girly fans crazy). As for the return of Roy, I think it will happen eventually, though I’m not sure how they’ll fit it in. Maybe he’ll die. And Toby, is he really going to move to Costa Rica? I hope not, I like him too much.

Jan: Speaking of death (since Kyle obviously wants it to happen,) maybe Jan will commit suicide. I know you don’t want to kill off one of the main-ish characters, but she seems pretty psycho. Or there could be pregnancies all around, and Jan will find out she’s expecting. Remember, she didn’t want kids but Michael really did, so this could lead to some interesting complications.

Angela: I think it would be Dwight’s baby, considering Kyle’s arguments against Andy and Angela, I don’t think they would take that relationship that far. Who knows, maybe Pam will be knocked up too. Ha ha, it’s like a pregnancy epidemic.

I wish they would have included more Kelly/Ryan interaction in the last episode, it’s always so funny and it would have been a good opportunity to get more into the secondary characters… which is something they haven’t been doing since the show’s return for reasons unknown to the weekly viewer.

    The future is so exciting!
