Hah, they're just a bunch of crazies around here.

Anyway, I see really 3 big players in the debate-- the vegan mindset, the PETA mindset, and the organic mindset.

To to PETA group, this is only big because it made the news. There's really nothing *worse off* for the animals than there already was. If anything, the average "quality-of-life" for the animals is going up, because these clones will be pampered.

To the vegan group, they're already far-gone. It's one more argument in their "I can't believe what you're putting in your body" scoff-- but they're really no scientific basis for their argument. Comparable to Mac fanboys.

And to the organic group: all-in-all, there's no reason why cloned meat can't be "organic" by nature. There's no added genetic code (such as that of GM foods), but just the reuse of *healthy* code. If everything we put in is natural, then the clone is still technically organic.

People are afraid of what they don't understand. The news fed them a tailored version of the complete story. What isn't emphasized is all the research that went into it, and that's still going on.

I agree with your thoughts on this completely and wonder what the hub-bub was across the house. Was it just the idea of eating something scientific instead of something naturally raised that scared your room mates? If they only knew how much science is already behind the "natural/organic" products they are already ingesting! I'd be interested to hear some of their comments on this...maybe you should send them the link for your post :)
